A modern twist on genies

Long, long ago before the current age of man there was a time of magic. The source of this magic comes from a long forgotten place in the universe. Sadly the true source has been lost in time. During this age beings could be created from this magic. There where fairies, giants, angels, dragons, unicorns plus many other fantastic types of amazing creatures and beings. One particularly strong magical spirit was known as a Jinni, and this is a tale about one of the strongest Jinni of all.

It all begins in Arabia. In a poor tent maker's weathered home. Khayyam was an unassuming man who worked hard every day and night just to live. Khayyam and his wife Abla would wake very early every day at the rise of the sun and worked to sell their tents till late in the day. After having their one meal a day because this is all they could afford, Khayyam would begin making tents till late into the night some times by the light of the moon. It was on just such a night while he was working on one of his tents in the moon light, that Qamar Ruhthe moon spirit noticed Khayyam and his wife Abla and decided to visit them as Nassir the tent maker's helper.

Khayyam said to his wife Abla, "My dearest wife I fear my sight is failing me. I am having troubles seeing under this light." Abla responds, "Silly man its late and your eye's must be tired, maybe you just need to get some sleep you will see better in the morning." Khayyam responds "Yes dear you're probably right, it is getting late and it seems as if the moon has decided to take its rest so I must rest too." At that very moment a gust of wind blows through the opening in the window sending a chill through the air. A humble tapping at the door soon follows. "Who could this be knocking at our door so late?" asks Abla to her husband. "Well the only way to find out is to answer the door." grumbles Khayyam as he goes to answer the door. As he opens the door he pears out, asking who is knocking at my door at such a late hour? A pleasant shivery voice replies, it is me Nassir I am a tent makers helper and I wish to study from the best I know and you are the one, oh great and noble tent maker Khayyam.

Khayyam is taken back by such silvery tones and gracious compliments. Please, please come in Nassir let us talk further of this training you seek. Khayyam grins happily knowing that having an apprentice is a wonderful deal for him too. Abla put on some hot tea for our guest, yells Khayyam. Khayyam, Abla and Nassir sit around all night sipping hot tea and enjoying pleasantries. Eventually the morning sun light starts to usher in the dawn of a new day and Nassir says that he must be off but will be back tomorrow to begin his training. Khayyam and Abla agree to this and decide to rest this day and get sleep to rest up for their new helper.

That day after catching up on their sleep Khayyam sends Abla out to get fresh food to put on a fine meal for their new helper. Khayyam was so glad to have an apprentice to take on the work that he feared he would not be able to do much longer in his old age. He never thought about getting an apprentice before and he is glad to have found one. After Abla returns from the market Khayyam tells her of his plans for the future and the new apprentice. They have decided that this will work out for them because the apprentice will work for them well into their old age. They never had children and this apprentice would be treated as a son to them that was their decision.

That evening Nassir comes back tapping at the door once again. This time the moon spirit sees the joy in Khayyam and Abla's faces, greeting him as if a long time friend. Khayyam welcomes him with open arms and hugs him with great pride calling him son. Abla greets Nassir as if he is her own son too, kissing him on the cheek as mothers do. Nassir is filled with joy by the greeting that he receives; he has never known such love.

Khayyam asks Nassir if he is hungry because they have a great meal for him, in celebration of his new apprenticeship. Abla worked most of the day to make this meal special, we want to welcome you into our home and we would like to consider you our son, if this is ok with you? Nassir struggles to find the words to respond to this. Deep inside he feels a strange feeling it's a deep penetrating feeling, a feeling that he has never felt before, it's a feeling of joy, delight, happiness all in one. Yes, you may call me son, I have never known my father or mother and all my life I have wished for only three things and a mother and father are two of them.

They feast well into the night, listening to Nassir tell fabulous tales of his adventures afar. But before they decide to start working on their tents for the night Khayyam tells Nassir that there is a secret ritual that he does every night and that Nassir should learn it too. Eagerly Nassir watches to see what Khayyam will do. Khayyam begins by unrolling a carpet out on the floor before them; he then kneels in the direction of the moon and says a prayer. "Dearest moon spirit, Qamar Ruh please shine your blessings down on us so that others will know of your hallowed powers when they see a tent made in your glorious light. Let your light be bright and full for us to work under and long shall we praise you." Nassir is stirred once again for hearing such a prayer in his name, a single tear forms in his eye and falls on the carpet. But this is not any ordinary tear, it is a tear of the moon spirit and because of this has magic in it. It is from this magic that the carpet has been given the magical power to fly and to soar through the skies like the moon.

Before the carpet has a chance to take flight Nassir whispers a magic word to the carpet putting it into a normal state. Khayyam is pleased to see Nassir kneeling down to the carpet and has not noticed the magical development. Khayyam explains that he prays every night regardless of any conditions to the moon spirit. Some nights the moon spirit has other places to be and we must make due with what light me can get.

Nassir says to his new father, tomorrow I will go to the market and get you a Lamp that will shine brightly for us to see by even when there is no, moon light. Khayyam is happy to hear this he has been in need of a new lamp for some time. Here Nassir this is our old lamp please take it to trade it in for a new one that shines brightly. Because we have much to do tomorrow we will call it a night and get some much needed sleep. Nassir is happy to do this task but he has decided to do something much greater for his new parents.

The next day Nassir is filled with such joy, as he begins to develop a plan. He goes to see Khaliq who is know as the creator of Jinni. Khaliq he is a wise and powerful being that is know for having a wicked sense of humor at times. Nassir I desire to put a Jinni into a lamp and have them grant three wishes, for who ever should rub the lamp. I have been told that you're the only one that can do such a thing but I don't believe it can be done.

Khaliq falls for Nassir's silver tongued trick, "I am the all and powerful Khaliq, I am the one that created the Jinni and I can do anything I desire. I will prove you wrong; I will put a Jinni into your lamp that is so simple that even you could do such a thing." Nassir grins with joy he has another idea. "I don't know you could probably put any Jinni in there but they would be so small and weak." Khaliq "I will put the largest and strongest of Jinni in this lamp just to prove you wrong. But there is a condition that must be followed, after getting those wishes the Jinni must be released from the lamp. For it would be unkind to make the most powerful Jinni a slave for all time to the masters of the lamp." Agreed says Nassir knowing that he was about to learn how to the strongest and biggest of all Jinni in a small modest lamp.

Khaliq begins by asking Nassir to gather all the wood he can manage from a near by olive grove that has been blessed with a magical singing spring that flows up from the earth into a special oasis. Nassir quickly sets out to gather this needed wood. He works diligently and collects all the wood that there is to find. Next Khaliq sends Nassir out to the oasis to collect a pail of water from the magical singing spring. This task is harder than it might sound though because any one who listens to the spring becomes instantly mesmerized by it's enchanting songs.

But Nassir being the cleaver spirit he is simply takes two olives from a tree and plugs his ears before entering the oasis spring area. He gets his pail of water and sees that it is not simple water because it reflects his true nature back at him, showing him for the moon spirit that he is. He is careful to not have a reflection of him self in the pail when he gives it to Khaliq. Good not I must burn the pile of these olive branches at the height of the fires height and life I need to pour this water over the fire and summon the most mighty of all Jinni. I must use the magic words Najib Nasib Nabim and from the fire, smoke and steam the Jinni shall appear as a servant and be placed into the lamp by my command. Anyone who shall rub the lamp till it becomes hot to the touch and says the magic words will have the power to receive three wishes from the Jinni.

So Khaliq does just as he described. He lights the fire from the olive branches and the oils from the wood burn bright and the flames dance about in the fire, yellows, reds, blues, whites, purples all come to life and swarm about the pile of wood devouring it as on might consume a feast. And just at the right moment when the flames where at their tallest and brightest he pours over the flames the magic springs waters but instead of the fire burning out it burns on but a hue of blue smoke and mist rise up from the flames and when you think that they have risen all the way to the height of the heavens Khaliq says those three magic words Najib Nasib Nabim.

The large plume begins to gather density and shape and a rumbling sound deep from with in bursts forth as if the cry of a thousand warriors but louder and much more powerful. Suddenly a booming voice pronounces "I am the mighty Baszit you have summoned me to do your bidding what shall I do for you my master?" I wish for you to give any one who rubes this lamp and says the three magic words to summon you from it three wishes. I also wish for you to reside in this lamp until you have been released from your service. I wish for you to follow some simple rules. Never bring back the dead, never mingle in affairs of the heart, and never tell a lie. "Yes master your wish is my command." Says Baszit and as quickly as he had appeared he shrinks down into the lamp and takes residence there in until he is released again.

I hope to write more later but how about some feeback on what I have writen so far?
